The car that crashed into an iconic burger joint in Hazel Park was stolen and was leading a police chase, Warren police said.

Police initially responded to an apartment complex near 8 Mile and Dequindre on July 9, just after 4:30 a.m., for a report of multiple Kia thefts in progress. Officers then went to the Lafayette Mobile Home community after receiving updated information on the investigation.

When officers arrived, they saw someone driving a black Kia Optima away from the area and tried to conduct a traffic stop. The driver of the Kia reportedly continued to drive away from officers, leading a police chase.

The driver traveled northbound on Warner before turning westbound on 9 Mile towards Dequindre. At the intersection of 9 Mile and Dequindre, the driver reportedly disregarded a red light and collided with a car that was traveling southbound on Dequindre.

A car not involved in the police chase was damaged in the crash. The driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. (Copyright 2025 by WDIV ClickOnDetroit - All rights reserved.)

The impact of the crash caused the Kia to strike Brayz Hamburgers before coming to a stop. Four juvenile suspects ran out of the Kia and were arrested after a brief chase.
