Car stolen with baby inside crashes during high-speed chase through St Clair, Macomb counties

Juvenile driver taken into custody

PORT HURON, Mich. – A 1-year-old baby was unharmed after a high-speed chase with a stolen car ended in a multiple-vehicle crash in Macomb County.

The car was stolen out of Port Huron at about 9 p.m. Thursday, July 17, from the intersection of Pine Grove Avenue and Hancock Street. Police said the 15-month-old baby was asleep in the backseat at the time.

According to authorities, the car was spotted on I-94 by a Marysville police officer, who attempted a traffic stop, but the stolen vehicle took off. Law enforcement chased the stolen car, allegedly reaching speeds of over 100 mph, before the car crashed into multiple parked vehicles near 21 Mile and Sugarbush roads in Chesterfield Township.

The baby in the backseat was not harmed.

The driver, only identified as a juvenile boy with a criminal history, was taken into custody. He remains lodged at the Macomb Juvenile Detention Facility.
