Virtually prescribing medication for an abortion would be illegal in Michigan under a bill introduced recently in the Michigan Legislature. State Rep. CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – A man is facing four 15-year felonies in the death of a 42-year-old woman who was found severely injured in an intersection on Sunday morning, Feb. 13. Police were called to the scene of a reported crash and found Teresa Sanchez, 42, of Chesterfield Township, at the intersection of Hidden Brook Drive and Burgess Lane. After an investigation, it was determined that the evidence and witness statements were not consistent with a traffic crash, Chesterfield Township Police Department said in a news release. Police arrived on scene to find a damaged Chevrolet car and a heavily damaged Harley Davidson motorcycle blocking the southbound lanes of Gratiot Avenue. According to police, the Chevrolet driven by a 35-year-old Mount Clemens resident turned left in front of the motorcycle driven by a 49-year-old Chesterfield resident. The Chesterfield resident is in critical condition at a local hospital, police said.

Doug Wozniak wins Republican primary in open Macomb County state Senate seat

State Rep. Doug Wozniak, R-Shelby Township, came out the victor Tuesday in the Republican primary for a special election in the state Senate’s 8th District. Wozniak defeated fellow state Rep. Pamela Hornberger, R-Chesterfield Township, and Terence Mekoski in the primary election, taking 35.7% of the vote with 100% of precincts reporting, per unofficial results. The district, which covers northern and coastal Macomb County, leans Republican, making Wozniak the favorite when he runs against Democrat Martin Genter in the November general election. The seat was previously held by former Sen. Pete Lucido, who left the Senate after he was elected Macomb County Prosecutor last fall. The 28th district trends Republican and was vacated by former Sen. Peter MacGregor, who left the seat to become Kent County Treasurer.

Michigan man, 69, dies in house fire possibly caused by medical problem

CHESTERFIELD, MI – A 69-year-old man died at his Chesterfield Township home on Monday morning after a fire that may have been ignited when he had a medical problem, police said. First responders were dispatched around 5:15 a.m. to the 47000 block of Forbes Drive for a reported house fire, Chesterfield Township Police said in a news release. The neighbors had been awakened by the sound of smoke detectors and the smell of smoke; they immediately called 911. Chesterfield police and fire units responded and found the home full of smoke, police said. Preliminary findings suggest the victim suffered a medical problem, which resulted in the ignition of the fire, police said.

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 39-year-old Clinton Township man named Gary King died in a motorcycle crash on Sunday that alcohol was likely involved in, police say. King lost control of his 2020 Harley Davidson and crashed. Debris from the incident led to the Eastpointe man’s 2004 Harley Davidson crashing. The Eastpointe man sustained an arm injured arm during the crash. When a Chesterfield Township police sergeant started CPR on the victim at the scene he was not breathing.

3 Michigan men fined nearly $20K for poaching waterfowl

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – Three men have been charged with misdemeanor wildlife crimes and fined thousands of dollars for poaching and baiting waterfowl in Southeast Michigan. Schaller was also charged with one count of placing bait for the purpose of taking waterfowl. On Dec. 6, the DNR Report All Poaching hotline received a tip about a potential waterfowl poaching near a pond off Chesterfield Road in Chesterfield Township, Macomb County. The officers approached when the men had concluded their hunt and began collecting the waterfowl, which clearly exceeded daily limits. Each man also permanently forfeited the firearms used to take the waterfowl and lost waterfowl hunting privileges through February 2022.

Robert “Bobby” Schornak and Daniel Herendeen, both from Macomb County (Roseville and Chesterfield Township, respectively), traveled to Washington in support of President Donald Trump and got inside the Capitol, according to the FBI. They were charged in Washington with obstructing Congress, violent entry to the Capitol and other crimes. Stabbing suspect arrested after police chase on I-94 in Macomb County

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A man suspected of stabbing another man was arrested after leading police on a chase on Interstate 94. The incident on Tuesday began in Clinton Township on North Avenue. Police said the man is believed to have stabbed a man multiple times. He was later spotted on 23 Mile Road in Chesterfield Township on and tried to outrun police. A video of the chase obtained by Local 4 showed the man swerving on the shoulder of I-94.

2 killed in crash after car crosses centerline of 23 Mile Road

Police are investigating a crash that killed two people and injured another in Macomb County. According to authorities, the collision happened just before 9 p.m. Wednesday when the driver of a 2005 Cadillac CTS-V lost control on the westbound lanes of 23 Mile Road and drove into the eastbound lanes, striking a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500. Police investigating a fatal crash on Nov. 26, 2020. (WDIV)Police said the driver of the Cadillac, 21-year-old David Vasilevski, and its only passenger, 22-year-old Ashley Machuta, were declared dead at the scene. The only occupant of the Dodge was a 19-year-old man from Macomb Township, who was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.

Chesterfield man arrested, accused of shooting at random homes

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – An 18-year-old man has been arrested by the Chesterfield Township Police Department Wednesday on suspicion of multiple drive-by shootings. According to authorities, Christian Koussa is charged with discharge of a firearm from a vehicle, a felony charge. Police said on Sept. 12, multiple homes were randomly targeted in drive-by shootings in an area near Donner Road and I-94. If convicted, he faces up to 10 years imprisonment. Davison man arrested after high speed chase in Chesterfield Township

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. A Davison man was arrested after leading police on an 18-mile chase Tuesday morning in Chesterfield Township. Instead, police dashcam showed the 31-year-old driver fleeing at a high rate of speed, at times more than 100 mph. The chase continued for 13 minutes as the driver is seen traveling through Chesterfield and Clinton townships. It ended near 23 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue when the driver flees from the moving car. The suspect didnt get very far, tripping and falling on the lawn of a nearby Burger King before he was arrested.

A 37-year-old Mount Clemens man suspected of shoplifting at a Target on Gratiot Avenue and 23 Mile Road Chesterfield Township was arrested after he led police on a vehicle chase Tuesday evening. Chesterfield Township police were called to the store at about 6:24 p.m. after store personnel reported that the suspect had stolen electronic equipment. He was located going west toward I-94 at 23 Mile Road, leading to the chase that was captured on police dashcam video. A suspected shoplifter was arrested Tuesday, July 28, 2019, after leading police on a vehicle chase in Chesterfield Township. I-94 road work to close multiple lanes this weekend

Weekend road repairs will close lanes on I-94 between Detroit and New Haven. Eastbound I-94 will be closed between Gratiot Avenue in Detroit and I-696 for weekend road repairs. During the closure, the detour for I-94 follows northbound Gratiot Avenue to eastbound I-696 and then back to eastbound I-94. MDOT says Eastbound I-94 will also close multiple lanes from Little Mack Avenue to 14 Mile Road for resurfacing. Only one lane will be open on eastbound I-94 between 21 Mile Road and New Haven Road from 4 a.m. Saturday to 5:30 p.m. Sunday for road maintenance, MDOT says.

Man hunting for mushrooms in Macomb County finds remains of missing man

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. The remains of a 35-year-old Eastpointe man reported missing in 2018 was found Saturday afternoon in Chesterfield Township by a man looking for mushrooms. According to the Chesterfield Township Police Department, it happened at about 4 p.m. in a heavily-wooded and swampy area south of 23 Mile Road, near I-94. Police said bones, heavily weathered clothing and camping equipment were found and that there were no signs of trauma. The man was identified by a Michigan ID card inside a wallet, police said. The investigation is ongoing, but police said there were no signs of criminal activity.

Chesterfield Township police officer injured in scuffle with armed gunman

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. A Chesterfield Township police officer was injured in a scuffle with an armed gunman Thursday morning, police say. On May 14 at 6:44 a.m. Chesterfield Township officers were dispatched to search for an unknown man wandering near homes in the Carriage Way Trailer Park. During the fight a Chesterfield Township officer suffered a significant injury to his knee. The officer was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he was treated for the injury and released later that day. Devoy has been charged with the felony possession of methamphetamine, felony carrying concealed firearm, felony possession of analogues, felony assault and resisting a police officer causing injury.

Reward offered for information after lasers pointed at helicopters from Selfridge in Macomb County

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A reward for information is offered after lasers were pointed at two Selfridge-based helicopters while they were flying in St. Clair County and Macomb County. The crews of both helicopters safely landed at Selfridge Air National Guard Base. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Coast Guard Investigative Service’s CGIS TIPS app, available free on Apple’s app store and Google Play. Officials are also seeking information about a laser that was pointed at a Coast Guard helicopter in Chesterfield Township on March 17. Officials noted that if a Coast Guard helicopter is on a rescue mission and a member of the aircrew is compromised by lasers, the mission must be aborted.

The arrests were made after Chesterfield Township police were surveilling the area of the TCF Bank on 23 Mile Road. The two men arrested were being sought by police for a bank robbery that happened at 10 a.m. Aug. 22 at the TCF Bank on 23 Mile Road. Once Chesterfield Township police detectives made contact with the men a short foot chase developed. Both of the men are being held at the Chesterfield Township Police Department and will be arraigned next week.
