Barricaded man allegedly fired AR-15, threatened police before arrest in Macomb County
CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI – A man armed with an AR-15 was arrested after he allegedly fired a shot and threatened police in Macomb County. As they investigated, a 47-year-old male suspect stepped out of his trailer and fired a shot near the officers, who quickly took cover as the suspect barricaded himself in his trailer. The man continued to disobey police commands as the Macomb County SWAT team arrived, while also continuing to threaten officers with his rifle, police said. The SWAT team was eventually able to tactically approach the suspect and take him into custody without further incident. The man, who has not been identified by name, has been charged with felony assault and malicious destruction of property.

A 35-year-old woman identified as Matthews’ girlfriend was stabbed multiple times and listed Monday at a hospital in stable condition. Police were called about noon Friday after Matthews’ girlfriend and their daughter were seen running from the home.

Police responded to the area about noon Friday after a motorist stopped to help the woman and the 5-year-old.

Several miles down the road, they noticed two sets of Charger headlights in the distance. Upon catching up, they realized it was the same two Chargers that had already been ticketed for speeding, police said. The troopers stopped one of the vehicles while the other continued, police said. Both drivers, a 34-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman, both of Chesterfield Township, were arrested for reckless driving and their vehicles were impounded, police said.

Preliminary findings suggest the victim suffered a medical problem, which resulted in the ignition of the fire, police said.

Schaller was also charged with one count of placing bait for the purpose of taking waterfowl. On Dec. 6, the DNR Report All Poaching hotline received a tip about a potential waterfowl poaching near a pond off Chesterfield Road in Chesterfield Township, Macomb County. The officers approached when the men had concluded their hunt and began collecting the waterfowl, which clearly exceeded daily limits. Each man also permanently forfeited the firearms used to take the waterfowl and lost waterfowl hunting privileges through February 2022.
