Independence Lake Beach is located at 3200 Jennings Road in Whitmore Lake.

The closure will remain in effect until testing shows that the levels are safe for swimming.

Although the beach is closed for swimming, health officials say it is open to other forms of recreation that don’t involve any body contact with the water, including fishing.

You can find the latest updates on the Independence Lake Beach closure on the health department’s website.

Due to closures like this one, beachgoers are encouraged to check if a beach is open before heading there. People can find the status of public beaches across Michigan on EGLE’s Beachguard website.
