Washtenaw County Health Department, partners to offer free flu vaccination events
YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Washtenaw County Health Department will be offering no-cost flu vaccines at two upcoming events in Whitmore Lake and Ypsilanti. According to the Health Department, everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine, especially this year with the COVID-19 pandemic. Getting a flu vaccine can also reduce the risk of becoming infected with both COVID-19 and the flu at the same time. The Health Department aims to prioritize those community members without insurance with the free vaccine program. Sister of Bob Basharas wife disappointed he only spent 8 years in prison before death
WHITMORE LAKE, Mich. Bob Bashara, who was convicted of plotting his wifes murder in 2012, died earlier this week while serving a life sentence. His wifes sister said shes disappointed Bashara didnt serve more of his prison time for the pain he caused. I am disappointed he only spent eight years in prison, said Julie Rowe, Jane Basharas sister, in a statement. Joe Gentz, who worked as Bob Basharas handyman, admitted to strangling Jane Bashara in the garage of the Grosse Pointe Park home. Authorities said Bob Bashara arranged the murder so he could pursue his BDSM lifestyle as Master Bob with a mistress and other women.

Washtenaw County, Livingston County health departments to offer free drive-thru COVID-19 testing Saturday
YPSILANTI, Mich. From noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, the health departments of Washtenaw County and Livingston County will offer free, drive-thru COVID-19 testing at Whitmore Lake Middle School. The testing site is at 8845 Main Street in Whitmore Lake, Michigan, about 10 miles north of downtown Ann Arbor. We know testing continues to be a challenge for many of us, said Washtenaw County health officer Jimena Loveluck in a statement. Those in need of transportation to the testing site can contact Peoples Express by calling 877-214-6073 by 10 a.m. on Friday, or by calling Livingston Essential Transportation Service at 517-490-7615. ANN ARBOR, Mich. - All proceeds from special tattoos done Oct. 19 at Ann Arbor's Lucky Monkey Tattoo and its sister shop, Lovely Monkey Tattoo and Piercing in Whitmore Lake, will be donated to an organization that helps homeless people. Heart Key tattoos will be $50. All proceeds from the Heart Key design will benefit an Ann Arbor charity that helps homeless people. Lucky Monkey Tattoo is located at 3024 Packard Street in Ann Arbor. Power outages in Michigan leave residents with no air conditioning on hottest day of summer
I know it was over 60 mph winds, said John Eckerly of Whitmore Lake. He is one of thousands of residents who were left without power after storms rolled through southeast Michigan on Friday night. Conditions are especially hard because the power outages have left people with no air conditioning on one of the hottest days this summer. No power means not only is her air conditioning out so is her refrigerator. It got so hot that Eckerly jumped in Whitmore Lake at 2 a.m. Saturday.
