Father of 6 remembered for his dedication, love after tragic Oakland County construction zone crash

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. – Nothing but good things can be said about 43-year-old father of 6, Cedric Jones, the Oakland County road worker killed in Farmington Hills on Wednesday after being hit by a car in a construction zone.

“He will be missed for the laughter, the time that we would come together as family,” said Alvin Jackson.

Jackson is not only Jones’s pastor at Wings of Love Baptist Church, but he is also his uncle, fully realizing the void that will now be created in their family.

“He was a loving father. He would take care of his children, his daughters, and his sons. They loved him as well,” said Jackson.

Two other people were injured after being hit by a silver Ford Escape on Orchard Lake Road.

Farmington Hills police say the car was traveling south before crossing over the median, striking Cedric and two other workers.

The two survivors are now recovering from serious injuries in the hospital.

The driver was taken to the hospital as well.

Chief John Piggott says the road had every safety precaution in place imaginable, but for some reason, the accident still occurred.

“It had appropriate emergency lights on or warning lights and cones, and then the last one,” Piggott said.

Either way, Jones will be remembered for several positive qualities, but mainly for being such a hard worker who provided for his family, all the way to the end.

“That’s one thing I can appreciate. He loved his family, and he took care of his family,” Jackson said.

“Right now, our top priority is supporting these employees’ families. We also are seeking to help our other staff, and we will have professionals on site tomorrow to assist anyone struggling with this situation.”
