DETROIT – A Farmington Hills man has been sentenced to more than six years in federal prison for an elaborate scheme in which he illegally obtained other people’s credit cards, as well as COVID-19 unemployment benefits he wasn’t entitled to. Andre Taylor Jr., 28, was sentenced in federal court on Tuesday on charges of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, United States Attorney Dawn N. Ison announced. Taylor Jr. pleaded guilty in December 2021.

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI – One man distracted residents while an accomplice stole items from the home as they pretended to be checking something for the city water department, police said. It happened around 3:50 p.m. on March 28 at a home in the area of 9 Mile and Drake roads in Farmington Hills, WDIV Local 4 reports. The two men knocked on the front door and told the residents they were from the water department and needed to check something in the house. Once inside, one of the men distracted the residents while the other stole items. Chief Jeff King, of the Farmington Hills Police Department, is reminding residents not to admit anyone into their homes if they arrive unexpectedly or present suspicious information, the report said.

A woman who also in the bar was allegedly shot by Altman-Tucker as well, but she is expected to survive. Police say the owners of the bar have decided to close permanently as this latest shooting marks the second fatal shooting at the bar since 2019.

67-year-old man dies in single-car crash on I-96 Monday morning

NOVI, MI -- Michigan State Police are investigating a single-car crash that took place Monday morning and claimed the life of a 67-year-old Farmington Hills man. Details are limited, but troopers with the MSP responded to a call regarding the crash around 4:05 a.m. Monday. The crash took place on eastbound I-96 east of Beck Road in Novi. The car exited the highway on the right shoulder and struck the guardrail, killing the driver. The identity of the man has not been released and the next of kin have not been notified.

City Of Farmington Hills Agrees On Discussion To Study Marijuana Ordinances

One community that has taken an interest in considering the marijuana industry is the city of Farmington Hills. In an article by the Farmington Voice, the Farmington Hills City council agreed Monday to establish a workgroup to study its current marijuana ordinances. As the Farmington Voice reported, Debani Gordon, an associate attorney for Farmington Hills’ City Attorney Steve Joppich, gave a presentation on Michigan’s medical and recreational marijuana laws. City of Farmington Hills Mayor Vicki Barnett said this will be a long process, even if the city agrees to amend its ordinances allowing marijuana businesses. Police: 3 Suspects On The Loose After Shots Fired During Farmington Hills Home Invasion

(CBS DETROIT) – Farmington Hills Police are searching for three men that broke into an apartment and stole several guns. Police say during the invasion, the suspects were confronted by the residents who fired several shots at the suspects. He was seen wearing black pants and three to four diamond/gold chains. SUSPECT 2: Dark skin, Black man, 20-25-years-old, shoulder length dreadlocks, medium build and approximately 180 pounds. SUSPECT 3: Dark skin, Black man, 20-25-years-old, medium build.

Michigan man killed in rollover crash after hitting freeway overpass

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI – A man is dead after a rollover crash on a Southeast Michigan freeway early Wednesday. The vehicle was traveling eastbound on I-696 in Farmington Hills around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, when it left the roadway and struck an overpass bridge abutment, WDIV Local 4 reports. They are working to determine the cause of the crash and to identify the victim. The victim was a 45-year-old man from Brighton, FOX 2 Detroit reports. Electric truck manufacturer to develop facility in Michigan, create 141 jobs

Ohio-based Lordstown Motors Corp. announced Tuesday that it plans to establish an automotive research and development center in Farmington Hills. The project supported by the Michigan Strategic Fund and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation is expected to create 141 jobs. Lordstown Motors' plans in Farmington Hills will consist of offices, space for vehicle inspection and benchmarking, and labs for testing, validation, and prototyping. “While we are proud of the truck we’ve built, the secret to Lordstown Motors has always rested in the workers – both the worker building the truck and the worker using the truck,” said Lordstown Motors CEO Steve Burns. Lordstown plans to offer employees on-the-job training, various advancement opportunities and a competitive benefits package.

Couple accused of multiple thefts brought children with them to commit crimes, police say

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI -- A mother and father have been arrested in connection with a series of breaking and entering crimes throughout southeast Michigan, according to WDIV Detroit. The suspects, Andrea Dawkins and Romelo Buggs, were arrested Wednesday night after a Farmington Hills police officer spotted a car in the parking lot of an an oil change business. The couple also allegedly told the officer they had been bringing the children with them while they committed the crimes. Buggs and Dawkins were arraigned Thursday on charges of breaking and entering a building with intent and driving while license suspended. Anyone with information regarding the break-ins is asked to contact the Farmington Hills Police Department at 248-871-2610.

Darius Whiting, 48, found shot on Michigan and Schlaff

Police say the shooting death of Farmington Hills resident Darius Whiting, 48, does not appear to be a random actDEARBORN — Dearborn Police have announced that on Wednesday, September 23, at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of Michigan Avenue and Schlaff Street for a report of man found deceased in a pickup truck. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, Darius Whiting, a 48-year-old Farmington Hills resident, had succumbed to gunshot wounds. Based upon the information at this time, the shooting does not appear to be a random act. He was very confident about it.The Story Pirates turn kids submitted stories into musical sketch comedy episodes, complete with funny voices and songs. The Gimlet Media podcast was the winner of the Parents Choice Award and has been streamed more than 10 million times.
