City updates condition of 2 road workers hurt in Farmington Hills construction zone crash

2 hospitalized workers in critical condition, but stable

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – City officials provided an update on the conditions of the two road workers who were injured in a Farmington Hills construction zone crash.

Crash details

The crash happened at 11:11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2025, on Orchard Lake Road between 10 Mile and 11 Mile roads.

Farmington Hills police Chief John Piggott said a driver was heading south on Orchard Lake Road and crossed over the median. The SUV struck three road workers who were in the northbound lanes.

The crew was working on sewer repairs. Piggott said they were parked legally and had the proper signage in place.

Road worker killed

One Oakland County road worker was killed in the crash. He has been identified as Cedric Jones, 43. He was the father of six children.

“He was a loving father,” said Alvin Jackson, Jones’ uncle and pastor. “He would take care of his children, his daughters, and his sons. They loved him, as well.”

“Cedric was a God-fearing man, a husband, and a father,” his family said in a statement. “His infectious smile lit up every room he entered. His warmth created an instant sense of peace. While we know God makes no mistakes, his passing is something we just cannot fathom. Our family asks for prayers as we come to terms with this unimaginable tragedy.”
