2 arrested in Detroit after fleeing Redford Township traffic stop in stolen vehicle

Two people were taken into custody in Detroit after fleeing Redford Township police in a stolen Jeep, police said. (Michigan State Police)

Two people were taken into custody on Thursday after fleeing a traffic stop in Redford Township in a stolen vehicle, police said.

Michigan State Police say that its Trooper 2 helicopter located a stolen Jeep near Telegraph and I-96 on Thursday, July 31.

The Redford Township Police Department was notified.

When officers responded, they tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled.

Trooper 2 continued to track the stolen vehicle into Detroit.

The two occupants of the vehicle eventually abandoned the vehicle and tried to run away, but Detroit officers were nearby, and both people were taken into custody.

“Another great job by ground units and aviation,” said Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw. “More tired bad guys off to jail and off the streets of our community. The best part was there were no injuries to the community or police.”
