Accused previously admitted to threatening Gov. Whitmer

Jason Tolonen (WDIV)

MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. – A 52-year-old man from Westland has been arrested and charged after reportedly sending threatening emails to a Macomb County judge.

Jason Tolonen is accused of sending vulgar and threatening emails to the court reporter of Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Jennifer M. Faunce. The emails reportedly referenced and were directed to Judge Faunce.

Authorities said the emails contained disjointed but violent language, mentioning phrases like “shot to death,” “die die die,” and “all mass murdered,” and referenced Judge Faunce’s family and Warren. Judge Faunce’s sister, Suzanne Faunce, is a Warren District Court judge, and their father, Sherman Faunce, was a judge of the same court.

Tolonen was charged Thursday, July 31, with using a computer to commit a crime and unlawful posting of messages with aggravating circumstances. His bond was set at $500,000. If paid, he would be required to wear a GPS tether, not use the internet and not contact the Faunce family or staff.

In 2024, Tolonen admitted to sending threatening messages to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

His next court date is set for Aug. 13.
