Oakland County street sees 2nd deadly hit-and-run in month

Crashes were within blocks of each other on Baldwin Avenue

PONTIAC, Mich. – Authorities are looking for the driver responsible for killing a 43-year-old man in Pontiac.

The crash happened late Tuesday, Aug. 5, on Baldwin Avenue, near Grandie Street. Authorities said Thomas Cummings was crossing the street when he was hit by a southbound vehicle. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Evidence recovered from the scene suggests he was hit by a Jeep-styled vehicle.

The crash happened just blocks away from where a Jeep killed a man on a bicycle roughly a month ago. The crashes are not believed to be connected.

In both crashes, authorities said the drivers didn’t stop or attempt to render aid, but just drove away.

The crashes remain under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information about either crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Tips can be made anonymously.
