TROY, Mich. – Eleven people were arrested for driving under the influence over the span of six days in Troy, police said.
According to The Criminal Defense Center of West Michigan, “warmer weather brings with it an uptick in travel, outdoor events, and social activities, many of which involve alcohol. As a result, DUI rates tend to increase during the summer months of June, July, and August.”

Between Aug. 3 and Aug. 9, officers conducted a series of traffic stops and investigations resulting in the arrests of 11 individuals for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol in Metro Detroit.
Rochester Road and E Big Beaver Road
A traffic stop led to the arrest of a 32-year-old driver for DUI.
Officers pulled over his Dodge Charger for multiple violations and said they noticed slurred speech and an alcohol odor. He failed sobriety tests and blew a .144% on a preliminary breath test.
A second chemical breath test registered .148%. He was cited for operating while intoxicated.
Rochester Road and Chopin Street
Officers stopped a Buick Encore GX for multiple traffic violations. The driver, a 23-year-old man from Royal Oak, had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.
Police said he performed poorly on sobriety tests and registered a .28% on a preliminary breath test.
He was arrested and cited for operating with a blood alcohol content of .17% or more.
Rochester Road and E Big Beaver Road
Officers responded to reports of a possible drunk driver in a Ram 1500, noted for speeding and swerving. After observing multiple traffic violations, they stopped the vehicle.
The driver, a 48-year-old man from Detroit, exhibited slow, slurred speech and failed sobriety tests, according to officers.
A preliminary breath test showed a .17% result. He was arrested and received citations for operating with a blood alcohol content of .17% or more, speeding, and no tail lights.
Flynn Park, 1710 South Boulevard
Officers responded to reports of a Chevrolet Blazer driving recklessly in a park’s parking lot, nearly hitting other vehicles, and the driver falling asleep at the wheel.
They found the driver, a 70-year-old man from Sterling Heights, who smelled of alcohol and was too intoxicated for sobriety tests, police said.
A preliminary breath test showed a .285% result. He was arrested, and the case is pending.
Belhaven Street and Beldale Street
A single-vehicle crash in Troy involving a Nissan Sentra ended with the driver’s arrest for DUI.
Officers said they found the car partially rolled over in a ditch. The driver, a 61-year-old woman, showed signs of intoxication with slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, according to authorities.
She failed sobriety tests and blew a .27% on a preliminary breath test, police said.
Northbound I-75 and Wattles Road
A 32-year-old man was arrested after a two-vehicle crash in Royal Oak. Officers said they found the driver with slurred speech and bloodshot eyes, and they said he smelled of alcohol.
He failed sobriety tests and blew a .29% on a preliminary breath test, according to police.
He was cited for operating with a blood alcohol content of .17% or more.
E Big Beaver Road and Rochester Road
A traffic stop led to the arrest of a 36-year-old driver from Eastpointe for DUI.
Officers smelled alcohol from his Dodge Durango and found an open container inside, they said. He failed sobriety tests and blew a .186% on a preliminary breath test. Additional tests showed .173% and .17%.
He was cited for operating with a blood alcohol content of .17% or more and having open intoxicants in his car.
N Adams Road and Tewksbury Lane
A 47-year-old driver from Lake Orion was arrested after being pulled over on a traffic stop.
Officers said his eyes were red. He denied drinking but admitted to having a weapon in his Jeep Wrangler, they said.
He failed sobriety tests and blew a .171% on a preliminary breath test. A search revealed a firearm locked in the center console.
He registered .187% and .191% on additional breath tests.
Northbound I-75 and Coolidge Highway
A driver from St. Clair Shores was arrested for DUI after swerving across lanes on I-75.
Officers said they stopped his Chevrolet Equinox and noticed glassy eyes and the smell of alcohol.
He failed sobriety tests and blew a .241% on a preliminary breath test. A search revealed open beer cans and a nearly empty tequila bottle, according to authorities.
He registered A .269%. after a second breath test. He was cited for high BAC and open intoxicants.
Yard House Parking Lot, 950 W Big Beaver Road
A welfare check led to the arrest of a 51-year-old woman from Southgate who was found passed out in her running car.
Officers said they discovered her in an Acura RDX. She admitted to taking morphine and oxycodone before driving, they said. She failed sobriety tests and refused a breath test, according to police.
After refusing a blood draw, a search warrant was obtained.
The case is currently under investigation.
E Big Beaver Road and Livernois Road
A 62-year-old man from Clinton Township was arrested for drug impairment and possession after a traffic stop.
Officers found him swerving in a Cadillac Deville. He admitted to overusing Adderall and failed sobriety tests, according to police.
A search revealed fentanyl, Vicodin, and other drug paraphernalia, police said. In total, 22 bundles of suspected fentanyl and 67 pills were found.
The case is under investigation.
