PONTIAC, Mich. – A man was struck by a car Sunday night in Pontiac, and authorities are searching for the driver.
At around 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 17 in the area of Perry and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, an unidentified man was found lying in the street motionless and bleeding.
His identity is not known, but the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said he is described as a man in his late teens or early 20s.
Investigators determined that the suspect was driving north on Perry Street while the unidentified man was crossing the road.
According to the sheriff’s office, this was the seventh hit-and-run crash in Pontiac in 2025 that caused a serious injury or death.
Witnesses described the car as a white work truck.
The unidentified man was taken to a local hospital and is in critical condition.
Deadly hit-and-run crashes
The sheriff’s office is still searching for information on the two deadly hit-and-run crashes that happened on Baldwin Avenue in Pontiac.
On July 3, a bicyclist was struck by a vehicle on Baldwin Avenue at Rundell Street.
According to the sheriff’s office, a 31-year-old Pontiac man was riding his bicycle north on Baldwin Avenue when he was struck by a black Jeep Grand Cherokee. The driver left the area.
The Pontiac man died at the scene.
A witness followed the Grand Cherokee onto a side street, where the driver and a passenger were seen leaving the damaged SUV and driving away in a silver Chevrolet Malibu.
The second deadly crash happened on Aug. 5 on Baldwin Avenue, near Grandie Street.
Authorities said Thomas Cummings was crossing the street when he was hit by a southbound vehicle. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.
Evidence recovered from the scene suggests he was hit by a Jeep-style vehicle.
The crash happened just blocks away from where a Jeep killed a man on a bicycle roughly a month ago. The crashes are not believed to be connected.
The crashes remain under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information about the crashes is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
