The delivery driver said he knocked on the door at the home for the pizza delivery, but no one answered. He tried to call the phone number of the person who placed the order, but received no answer.
A short time later, he received a phone call from a different number, saying he was in the backyard.
After the call ended, the delivery driver said a man, later identified as Deron Finkley, ran up to him with a handgun and demanded that he get out of his car and give him all of his money.
The man drove off in the delivery driver’s car, which also had several pizzas that the driver was delivering, as well as his cell phone.
Second robbery
The second armed robbery happened on Aug. 3, 2025.
A DoorDash delivery driver reported to police that she was delivering an order of pizza and chicken in the area of Riverdale and Davison when two men approached her. One of the men reportedly had a large gun and told her to “get the f--- out of the car.” The suspect then struck her in the face with the gun.
The Doordasher said she got out of her car and lay on the ground as the two men stole the delivery order from her car and walked away.
She told police she briefly lost consciousness after being struck by one of the men. She suffered bruising on the right side of her face, as well as a black eye.
Man reportedly admits to robberies
Finkley was arrested in Detroit on Aug. 4 for allegedly carrying a concealed weapon.
During his arrest, police said they found a handgun with no serial number. It also had an extended magazine and a Glock switch.
During an interview with authorities, he reportedly admitted to both robberies on Aug. 1 and Aug. 3.
He told police that he ordered food in the area where the first robbery happened, and stole the food and the delivery driver’s car.
Authorities said Finkley also admitted to robbing the DoorDash driver on Aug. 3. He reportedly denied that he hit the woman with a gun, saying he accidentally struck her in the face with a pizza box.
