2 injured after being shot while driving on I-275

Driver, passenger receive non-life-threatening injuries in shooting

WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Two people were injured after being shot while traveling on I-275 late Tuesday night.

The shooting happened on I-275 near Eureka Road in Romulus on Aug. 19, 2025.

A person called 911 on Tuesday just before 11:30 p.m., initially saying they were driving east on I-94 near Wayne Road and two people in their car had been shot.

The call disconnected, and emergency dispatchers tried to return the call before it disconnected again. Dispatchers tracked the call to Oakwood Main Hospital ER.

Michigan State Police troopers went to the hospital and interviewed the people injured and the other passengers.

The passengers told police that they were traveling on southbound I-275 and somewhere between I-94 and Eureka Road when their car was shot at by an unknown car.

Two people, the 35-year-old driver and a 23-year-old Harper Woods man, received non-life-threatening injuries. The two other passengers in the car were not injured.

The freeway was closed for hours overnight as police gathered evidence.
