Pothole repairs to force weekend closure of I-275 in Wayne County
WAYNE COUNTY, MI – The closure of a major highway in Metro Detroit will affect traffic this weekend. On Monday, officials in Plymouth Township (Wayne County) reminded residents that the Michigan Department of Transportation will close northbound I-275 from the evening of Friday, April 22 until 5 a.m. on Monday, April 25. The well-traveled highway serves as a western bypass to downtown Detroit and takes many people to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. All entrance ramps to northbound I-275, from I-94 including Ecorse Road, US-12, M-153, Ann Arbor Road, and eastbound M-14 will be closed. “The pavement on northbound I-275 is deteriorating quicker than anticipated and repairs must be done,” township officials wrote.

A police cruiser that was stopped at the scene was struck on its passenger side by a dark colored Ford Bronco, the release said. The Plymouth Township Police Department is searching for the driver of a Ford Bronco who sideswiped a police cruiser on I-275 on Feb. 19. Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the Ford Bronco and its driver. Police said the Ford Bronco, which was described as “newer” looking, should have damage along the driver’s side as a result of the crash.

The following day, I-275 will be closed completely from 5 a.m. until 9 a.m. between 8 Mile Road and Grand River for maintenance work as well. The ramps leading from eastbound I-96, southbound M-5, westbound I-696 and northbound M-5 will all be closed during this time. Traffic on northbound I-275 south of 8 Mile Road will be diverted onto 8 Mile Road during the Sunday closures. ROMULUS, MI -- A man is dead after he crashed into a retention pond early Thursday morning at the at CSX Railyard on Pennsylvania Road near I-275. According to Fox 2 Detroit, several people were involved in attempting to steal six cars from the railyard with three of the car having already been recovered. It’s unclear how the man crashed into the pond, but CSX Police believe the man lost control of the vehicle before crashing into the pond. Police say the brand new cars are typically parked in the railyard before they are shipped to dealers. CSX Police are investigating the incident.

HURON TOWNSHIP Two Huron police officers and a dispatcher have been feted for quick action, including entering the freeway in the wrong direction, used to stop a drunken driver. Edward Hindley and Officer Ahmed Kassem of the Huron Township Police Department were dispatched about 2 a.m. Jan. 25 to the area of southbound I-275 near Will Carleton Rd. on reports of a wrong-way driver, according to the Huron Township Department of Public Safety. A white Ford F-150 was spotted traveling northbound in the southbound lanes at more than 80 mph, reported Alexis Powell, dispatcher for Huron Township. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Henry Ford-Brownstown Medical Center before being lodged in the Huron Township jail facility.
