Oakland County man to serve prison time, register as sex offender after accosting minor

Drugs, sex toys reportedly found in car

Thomas Mellick Hensler (Auburn Hills Police Department)

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – A 38-year-old Clarkston man pleaded no contest to accosting a minor after reportedly leaving a sexually explicit note on a girl’s car.

According to authorities, Thomas Mellick Hensler left a note on a 17-year-old girl’s car in March outside a Target store in Auburn Hills. The note offered to pay her for sexual favors. The note had a phone number on it, so the police communicated with him by phone. Police said the communication was also sexually explicit.

Hensler was found inside his car nearby and taken into custody. Police said they found drugs and sex toys inside his vehicle.

Hensler was charged with child sexually abusive activity, using a computer to commit a crime and possession of a controlled substance.

In August, Hensler pleaded no contest to accosting a minor, using a computer to commit crime and possession of methamphetamine.

As part of his plea agreement, Hensler will serve prison time as a habitual offender and will be a lifetime registrant on the Sex Offender Registry.
