Mother, son found dead with injuries from trauma, police say

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – A mother and son were found dead in an Oakland County home on Labor Day.

Police said they were found in their home on Berdeno Avenue in Hazel Park at around 4:15 p.m. on Sept. 1 with injuries from apparent trauma.

The Hazel Park Police Department said the investigation is being handled as a homicide, and there is no danger to the public.

Hazel Park Schools released the following statement to parents on Monday regarding the investigation:

We regret to inform you of another tragic incident that has occurred within our Hazel Parks Schools community.

The family is in our thoughts, prayers, and support during this incredibly difficult time.

We also have a mental health professional on-site if your child would like to meet with them. If you have any specific concerns regarding your student or how you should help your student at home, please call 248.648.2302.

We will be sharing information on how your community can offer assistance for both families in the coming days.

Please take a moment to hug your children and remind them how much they are loved. Encourage them to be especially compassionate and supportive of their classmates, as you never know what someone else is going through.

Our school counselors and support staff are available to any student who may need someone to talk to, whether they are personally affected by these events or are struggling to process them. We also have compiled a list to connect with other professionals who are trained to handle any kind of emotional distress.

Please encourage your child to reach out if they need help.
