Detroit – Downtown Detroit is changing fast, and a new coffee spot is adding to the buzz. Saturn Coffee—opened by husband-and-wife team Chris and Sarah Welch—has just started welcoming guests in the New Center area.
You’ll find the shop inside the historic Abington apartments at 700 Seward, just around the corner from the Fisher Theatre and Henry Ford Hospital. According to the Welch’s, the space is bright and energizing, and everything on the espresso menu—both the classics and some inventive new drinks—is made with locally roasted beans from Ypsilanti’s Hyperion Coffee Co.
Chris and Sarah met at U of M and share a real passion for coffee; Chris is even a certified barista through the Specialty Coffee Association. Besides the usual espresso drinks, the menu includes specialties like espresso tonics and citrus espresso blends, plus matcha, cold brew, teas, and more. There’s also a small food menu with breakfast sandwiches on homemade biscuits and a rotating selection of local pastries.
“We love Detroit—the community and creativity here inspire us,” the Welches said in a press release. “Whether you’re popping in for a pick-me-up, meeting for work, or catching up with friends, we want Saturn to feel welcoming to everyone.”
The shop has a pet-friendly outdoor patio, bike racks, and free street parking. Hours are Monday–Friday 6:30 a.m.–3:00 p.m. and Saturday–Sunday 8:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
