Vigil held for victims of Labor Day double homicide in Hazel Park

Both were found in cold blood in what appears to be a brutal stabbing

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – Countless balloons were released into the sky on Wednesday evening, each one representing a prayer for the lives of 41-year-old Linda Hill and her son, 12-year-old Kardi Jackson.

Both were killed in their home on Monday (Sept. 1) on Berdino Avenue.

“Our loved ones didn’t have to get taken because of somebody else,” said family member Amber Fairfax.

“It’s family, and it hits. It’s just a screeching feeling. You can’t even wrap your head around the feeling. You can’t even express the emotions,” said family member Latrese Hancock.

Both Hill and Jackson were found in cold blood on Labor Day in what appears to be a brutal stabbing.

Jackson was supposed to start school the next day.

“For all of these young people, they’re mothers who brought them out, I just thank God just to be able to see all of the love and support of all of these young people. The parents, the faculty, the teachers they all say the same thing. He was a great kid. He was a great kid,” Hancock said.

A 43-year-old man from Redford Township has so far been arrested in connection with the case.

But family members say that doesn’t make it any easier.

“We do feel a little bit of relief, but at the same time, we still lost two loved ones, and a child at that. Everybody’s devastated in the family. But we appreciate all the support that we’re getting. So, thank you, and we appreciate it,” Hancock said.
