Single-engine plane makes emergency landing at airport in Macomb County

Instructor sustains minor cuts, trainee not injured

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A flight instructor and their student are okay after they had to make an emergency landing on Thursday.

Michigan State Police said the two took off from the Oakland County International Airport on Sept. 4. During that flight, the engine began smoking due to an oil leak.

The instructor turned off the engine and headed for the Romeo State Airport in Ray Township. The front landing gear broke off before it came to a stop.

The instructor had some minor cuts, and the trainee wasn’t hurt.

The FAA is investigating the crash.
