Wayne County convict charged after deadly motorcycle crash, hospital escape

INKSTER, Mich. – A man who reportedly escaped from a Wayne County hospital is now facing charges related to a deadly crash and his escape.

The crash happened on Sept. 2, near Inkster Road and Lucerne Street. According to authorities, Antonio Dewayne Hollingsworth failed to yield when leaving a parking lot, hitting a motorcycle on Inkster Road.

The motorcycle driver, 44-year-old Nicholas Cogswell, was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Hollingsworth was taken into custody at the scene.

Police said Hollingsworth was transported to Garden City Hospital at about 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept 4, after he had complained of chest pain. After receiving treatment, he reportedly escaped from police custody and ran off on foot.

Police described Hollingsworth as a parole absconder convicted of armed robbery and warned residents that he was dangerous.

He was taken back into custody several hours later after a tip from a quick-thinking resident.

Hollingsworth was charged Monday, Sept. 8, with possession of a controlled substance, moving violation causing death, escape from lawful custody and driving while license suspended.

His bond was set at $100,000.
