A man is accused of shooting at three men outside his Detroit home. He initially told police that the men had fired at him.

However, the three men—Livonia police officers conducting an undercover operation at the house—soon arrived at the local precinct to report their version of events shortly after the shooting.

They told Detroit officers that the man yelled at them and then fired a shot.

Now, Shane Allen Luxon, 44, is facing a felon in possession of a firearm charge.

Here’s what to know about the case, according to an affidavit within a criminal complaint from Richard Cousins, a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) Special Agent.

Detroit officers arrive at man’s home

On Aug. 25, 2025, Detroit police officers responded to a home on Hubbell Avenue for a ShotSpotter alert.

When they arrived, they saw Luxon outside the home with a flashlight.

Luxon told the officers that while he was watching security cameras upstairs in his bedroom, he saw “three Black males in front of the house,” according to the complaint.

He claimed that he opened his window and yelled at the men after he saw one of them “crouching down” near a friend’s car.

After that, Luxon said one of the men fired a shot before they all fled the scene.

He couldn’t describe what the gun or the man who fired the shot looked like, according to the ATF agent.

Undercover officers say man shot at them

While officers were at the scene with Luxon, three undercover Livonia police officers in plain clothes arrived at the Detroit Police Department’s Second Precinct.

The Livonia officers said they had been conducting an “undercover operation” at the Detroit home when a man yelled at them from an upstairs window and fired a weapon. Authorities did not reveal additional details about the undercover operation.

After the shot was fired, the Livonia officers said they went right to the second precinct to report what happened.

Police find gun in man’s bedroom

Once Detroit police learned about what actually happened, additional officers responded to the Detroit home and detained Luxon.

A search warrant was obtained, and officers searched the home.

In Luxon’s bedroom, officers found a Clerke 1st .32 caliber revolver.

They also discovered that a surveillance video input was set up on the TV inside his room, which confirms Luxon’s comments about watching surveillance cameras in his room.

Man claimed gun didn’t work properly

When questioned, Luxon admitted to having the gun, but claimed it didn’t work correctly.

While at the Detroit Detention Center, it is alleged that Luxon made “multiple spontaneous statements” about how the gun was inoperable, according to the complaint.

However, Detroit police examined the gun and found that it appeared to function properly.

Gun was manufactured outside of Michigan, agent finds

On Sept. 10, 2025, an ATF agent described the gun to another ATF agent, who was an interstate Nexus expert, who confirmed the revolver was manufactured outside Michigan.

“Therefore, the firearm traveled in and/or affected interstate commerce to arrive in the State of Michigan,” the court document states.

Criminal history

According to the complaint, Luxon’s criminal history includes the following:

  • October 2018: Assault with a dangerous weapon; controlled substance- possession of methamphetamine/ecstasy (16th Circuit Court, Michigan)
  • November 2018: Motor vehicle- unlawful driving away, habitual fourth offense (6th Circuit Court, Michigan)
  • November 2022: Controlled substance- possession of methamphetamine/ecstasy; firearms- possession by a felon (3rd Circuit Court, Michigan)

The criminal complaint was filed on Sept. 11, 2025, and signed by Anthony Patti, U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan.
