DETROIT – Out of the seven Triumph Church locations in Michigan, two are responsible for owing the water and sewage department nearly $30,000.
Yet the head of the church, Solomon Kinloch Jr, is running for Mayor, leaving some to wonder if the candidate is the best move for the city of Detroit.
The exact dollar amount is $29,657.60. That’s between the Joy Road and East Grand Blvd locations.
But they’re not the only ones. Turns out the church is not alone. More than 35,000 residents appear to owe the city’s water department and are on some type of payment plan.
The water and sewerage department responded to Local 4’s inquiry.
“This faith-based organization is enrolled into the DWSD EasyPay Plan for its past due water, sewerage, and drainage balance. EasyPay is for any customer who has a past due balance, there are no income restrictions to enroll, it’s a $10 down payment regardless of past due balance amount owed, and the remaining balance is spread over 36 months in addition to their current monthly water, sewerage, and drainage charges.”

We also reached out to Triumph Church for comment.
“Like many residents and businesses across Detroit, the church participates in the City’s Affordability Plan to manage water bills responsibly. Pastor Kinloch understands firsthand the strain caused by soaring water costs and, as mayor, will put measures in place to help Detroiters address the burden of excessive fees—particularly those driven by the drainage tax.”
