ROCHESTER, Mich. – What started as a chemical spill outside McGregor Elementary School in Rochester is now a death investigation.
Details are still unclear, but the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office says they found a body while checking out a car in the school parking lot on Wednesday (Sept. 17).
Officers believe foul play isn’t involved, and the community is safe.
The school also says the incident has nothing to do with students or staff.
McGregor Elementary School issued a statement.
“Earlier today, local police investigated a situation unrelated to the school community that was confined to a parking space at McGregor Elementary School.
The area has been cleared. All students and staff are safe. Classes will continue at McGregor Elementary on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025.
It appears rumors were circulating about a chemical leak. Local law enforcement has confirmed that the rumors are false and that at no time was any member of our school community at risk of being harmed.”

The initial incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. when Local 4 was told that the Rochester Police Department and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office were handling a situation regarding a chemical spill in the parking lot of McGregor Elementary School.
Rochester Community Schools issued a statement on the matter.
“Earlier today, at approximately 3:45 p.m., the McGregor Elementary School community was notified that an incident took place in the McGregor parking area. The incident remains under police investigation. All McGregor Elementary School students and staff are safe.”
