The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said a woman called 911 to report that her fiancé, a 35-year-old man, assaulted her 11-year-old daughter at home. He then allegedly dragged the girl from the house and was walking down the street, and refused to let go of her. The woman followed them while on the line with 911.
Deputies responded to the area of Cedar Street and Ashlyn Drive and found the man still grasping onto the girl. A deputy gave numerous commands for the man to stop and release the girl, but the man allegedly refused to cooperate and continued walking with the child.
The sheriff’s office said the man continued to become uncooperative after more deputies arrived at the scene, leading to deputies deploying tasers.
The man then fell to the ground, freeing the child from his grasp.
After a brief struggle, the man was taken into custody.
According to the sheriff’s office, the girl was safely returned to her mother and had minor injuries from the assault. She was treated at the scene.
The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for his minor injuries. He was then lodged at the Monroe County Jail. His identity is being withheld pending arraignment.
