Driver killed in Oakland County when SUV crosses center line, crashes head-on into bucket truck

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A driver was killed when an SUV crossed the center line of a road in Oakland County and crash head-on into a bucket truck, police said.

The crash happened around 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025, in the area of Cooley Lake Road and McDougal Street in Waterford Township.

Police said a 66-year-old woman was driving east on Cooley Lake Road in a Ford Escape when she crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a Chevrolet 6500 bucket truck that was heading west.

The truck is a Waterford Township Department of Public Works vehicle, according to police.

The driver of the Escape was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The driver of the bucket truck was not injured.

Police don’t believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
