CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Three men are accused of driving from Flint to Metro Detroit to carjack someone so they could use the car for a drive-by shooting.
They tried to carjack a man at a Canton Township gas station and then at his home, but were unsuccessful, according to authorities. Officials say several shots were fired at the victim.

Then, about a month later, one of the three men was arrested, and his fingerprints were taken, which linked him to prints found on the attempted carjacking victim’s car and moved the investigation forward, authorities said.
An affidavit in support of a criminal complaint for Tyrome Moore and Tyquise Moore from FBI Agent Paul J. Staso was filed on Oct. 9, 2025, for the charges of attempted carjacking and aiding and abetting.
Here’s everything we learned from the complaint:
Attempted carjacking at Canton Township gas station
On Sept. 5, 2025, Tyrome Moore, Tyquise Moore and a third suspect allegedly drove from Flint to Canton Township together and tried to carjack someone.
At about 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 5, 2025, a man was inside his Nissan Sentra at a Shell gas station on Michigan Avenue and Lotz when the trio pulled up next to him in a silver Mitsubishi Outlander, the complaint says.
Tyrome Moore allegedly got out of the vehicle and approached the victim while armed with a pistol and wearing a mask.
As Tyrome Moore told the victim to get out of the car, the third suspect, who was also masked and armed with a rifle, walked over to the passenger side of the victim’s vehicle, the complaint says.
At this point, both of them were ordering the victim to get out of the vehicle, authorities said.
The victim refused and drove away. He went to his house, which is about two miles from the gas station.
Suspects follow victim home, FBI agent says
The three men followed the victim home to try and steal his car again, according to the affidavit. Tyquise Moore was driving the Outlander, authorities said.
The victim told police that Tyrome Moore hit him in the head with a pistol.
Tyrome Moore then allegedly went into the driver’s seat of the victim’s vehicle and tried to start it, but couldn’t.
After that, he got back into the Outlander, officials said.
Shots fired at victim
When the victim walked up to the front door and tried to go inside, shots were fired at him, causing multiple shrapnel injuries from the impact of the bullets on the home, according to the complaint.
The three suspects then drove away, authorities said.
Law enforcement officials responded to the gas station, where they reviewed surveillance video of the attempted carjacking, and to the victim’s home.
Police recover fingerprints from victim’s car
Police recovered several latent fingerprints from the vehicle and submitted them to the Automated Fingerprint Identification System for analysis. That initial submission was negative for a match.
1 suspect arrested in unrelated crime
Tyrome Moore was then arrested in Genesee County on Oct. 3, 2025, on suspicion of an unrelated felonious assault and carrying a concealed weapon. Police accuse him of possessing a Ruger 9 mm pistol.
Since he was arrested, law enforcement officials obtained his fingerprints, and on Oct. 6, they were alerted that those fingerprints matched the ones found on the attempted carjacking victim’s vehicle.
Tyrome Moore also provided his phone number after the Genesee County arrest, and investigators used that information to obtain a search warrant for location data to find out if his cellphone was in the area of the attempted carjacking when it happened.
Police also learned that Tyquise Moore was the registered owner of a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander, which is the model connected to the attempted carjacking. Officials also obtained a search warrant for the location data connected to Tyquise Moore’s phone number.
Data revealed that the phones of Tyquise Moore and Tyrome Moore had connected to a cell tower near the gas station and the victim’s home on the night of the carjacking.
2 arrested for attempted carjacking in Canton Township
On Oct. 6, police conducted surveillance outside the Flint home of Tyquise Moore and Tyrome Moore, and saw them both leave and enter the Outlander.
Authorities conducted a search warrant on the home on Oct. 8, 2025.
When they searched the house, police said they found a pump-action shotgun and a .223 caliber AR platform rifle.
According to the affidavit, they both admitted that the rifle was used in the attempted carjackings and shooting at the victim’s house.
They were arrested and taken to the Canton Township Police Department.
Suspect tells police he was ‘hoping they would get someone who kinda deserved it’
Tyrome Moore allegedly admitted that three men had seen the victim’s car parked in an unknown location and then followed him to the Shell gas station, where they tried to carjack him.
He also told police he “swung at the victim and the victim fell to the ground” when they approached him at his home, but said he “did not remember striking the victim in the head with the pistol and did not believe he did so.”
Tyrome Moore said when he was getting back in the Outlander, the third suspect fired shots at the victim’s home, and as they were driving away, he “fired an unknown number of shots from the pistol in the air,” according to the affidavit.
During his police interview, he also said he “felt bad for the victim” and was “hoping they would get someone who kinda deserved it,” the complaint reads.
Suspects allegedly wanted to steal a car for a drive-by shooting
Tyquise Moore told police that the night before the carjacking, the third suspect contacted him and Tyrome Moore. He told police that this third suspect is their cousin.
The cousin told the other two that he was having issues with one of their neighbors, according to the complaint.
Tyquise Moore told police that the neighbor had “claimed to be a gang member and threatened to kill” the cousin, the complaint says.
The cousin allegedly told Tyquise Moore “that they needed to get the neighbor before he gets them,” and revealed he wanted to use Tyquise Moore’s car for a drive-by shooting, according to the document.
But Tyquise Moore said he didn’t want to use his own car for the shooting, and told the others they would have to steal someone else’s car, according to the complaint.
So, he told police that the trio had agreed to drive to Metro Detroit to steal a car.
Suspect admits to another carjacking attempt before gas station carjacking
On the morning of the attempted carjacking, the men drove to the Detroit area with a pistol and rifle in the car, the complaint says. Tyquise Moore admitted they belonged to him, investigators said.
Before the attempted carjacking at the gas station, the men allegedly tried to carjack someone else.
That was unsuccessful, and they thought that the victim would report it to the police, so they traveled to a different city, the complaint says.
Tyquise Moore also admitted to police that they followed the victim’s car from what he believed was somewhere in Southfield to the gas station and then followed him home, according to authorities.
He told police that they had lost sight of the victim and were going to drive out of the neighborhood, but then they spotted him pulling up to a home, so he pulled up to that house, the complaint says.
At that point, Tyquise Moore said Tyrome Moore got out of the car and tried to get the car keys from the victim before getting in the victim’s car to see if the keys were there, authorities said.
Tyquise Moore also said the group had taken the license plate off the Outlander before the attempted carjacking, and after they left the victim’s home, they put the license plate back on, the complaint says.
“Based on the foregoing, there is probable cause to believe that on Sept. 5, 2025, in the Eastern District of Michigan, Southern Division, that Tyrome Markki Moore and Tyquise Marrki Moore aided and abetted one another in the attempted taking of a motor vehicle from the victim through the use of force, violence and intimidation,” the complaint concludes.
The criminal complaint was signed by U.S. Magistrate Judge Elizabeth A. Stafford.
