CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Southbound I-275 in Canton Township reopened after a pedestrian was hit and killed while walking into traffic.
The crash occurred on Monday (Oct. 13) near Palmer Road.
According to the Detroit Regional Communication Center, Canton Township police notified authorities of the incident at 7:55 p.m.
Preliminary investigation by Metro South Troopers revealed that a man had parked on the right shoulder of southbound I-275, exited his vehicle, and walked into the lanes of travel.
Police said one driver swerved to avoid the pedestrian, but a second driver was unable to stop and struck the man while he was in the middle lane.
Both drivers remained at the scene.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet notified the pedestrian’s family.
Southbound I-275 near Palmer Road remains closed as the investigation continues.
