Foot chase through cornfield ends in arrest after motorcycle theft investigation

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – A man fled into a cornfield and was captured after police found a stolen motorcycle in Monroe County.

The incident occurred on Friday (Oct. 17) at 2:30 p.m. in the area of Samaria Road and Sylvania-Petersburg Road.

Deputies said they were dispatched to the area to search for the motorcycle stolen from Toledo, Ohio.

While searching, police said they located the stolen motorcycle parked at a residence in the 6800 block of Samaria Road.

Police said a man standing with the motorcycle immediately fled on foot when they pulled into the driveway.

Additional deputies responded, locked down a perimeter, and began searching for the suspect.

Police said they conducted an aerial search using a sheriff’s office drone, while other officers searched on the ground with their police service dog.

During the search, police said the suspect emerged from a cornfield and surrendered.

The suspect, a 32-year-old Bowling Green, Ohio, resident, was lodged at the Monroe County Jail pending charges of receiving and concealing stolen property.

His name was not released.

The case remains under investigation by Deputy Parran of the Uniformed Services Division.
