25-year-old bicyclist dies after being struck by box truck in Westland

Lifesaving measures were performed on the 25-year-old, but he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital

WESTLAND, Mich. – A 25-year-old bicyclist was killed in a crash involving a box truck in Westland.

The crash occurred on Tuesday (Oct. 21) at 5:57 a.m. near the intersection of Wayne Road and Warren Road.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the box truck was turning from southbound Wayne Road to eastbound Warren Road and struck the bicyclist in the crosswalk on eastbound Warren Road.

Officials said lifesaving measures were performed on the 25-year-old man riding the bicycle by Westland police and fire personnel, but he was later pronounced deceased at a nearby hospital.

Police said the driver of the box truck remained at the scene and was cooperating with the investigation.
