SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – A 9-year-old girl saw a hand holding a cellphone while she was inside a bathroom stall at a store in Oakland County, police said.
The girl and her mother were at the Michaels store at 28550 Telegraph Road in Southfield on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025.
They used the restroom while inside the store and went into separate stalls, police said.
While the girl was in a stall alone, she said she saw a hand above her stall that was holding a cellphone and taking photos of her, according to authorities.
The girl shouted for her mother and said the hand belonged to a man wearing black sleeves and white shoes.
Southfield police said a person of interest entered the store at 7:36 p.m. and left at 7:41 p.m. You can see surveillance footage at the top of this page.
He is described as a bald man with a mustache and a medium build. He was wearing a white coat, a black shirt, black pants, and white shoes.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Southfield Police Department at 248-796-5500, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP to remain anonymous.
During a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren urged the public to come forward with any information they may have about this person of interest.
“I know when the community sees him, whether it’s somebody he works with, whether he has a girlfriend or wife, his parents, somebody will recognize him, and they will call 911,” said Barren. “So my message to him in this case: Turn yourself in.”
