Detroit sets 30-day deadline for release of police bodycam, dashcam video

The change has support from both the police department and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office

DETROIT – The city of Detroit and its police department have set new rules for releasing body camera and dashcam video.

After a city council vote, there’s now a 30-day deadline to make these videos public.

Those rules only apply to cases where someone was taken to the hospital.

The city says anyone shown in the videos will be notified before they’re released, and if there’s a death, the family will be notified before the video goes public.

The city said on Tuesday (Oct. 28) that the change has support from both the police department and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
