Cash and credit cards were stolen during the incident.

Police are asking nearby residents to review any security or doorbell camera footage from that time for clues that could help identify the suspect.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Sergeant Hayes at 734-354-3232.

The department is also sharing home security tips to help residents protect their properties:

  • Treat your property like a burglar would. Check for easy access points such as unlocked doors, low windows, or shrubbery that could hide intruders.
  • Keep valuables and electronics out of sight from windows.
  • Trim shrubs and trees to eliminate hiding spots, especially near windows and upper floors.
  • Use lighting strategically; well-lit homes are less likely to be targeted. Consider motion-activated or dusk-to-dawn exterior lights.
  • Secure doors and windows, and lock all entry points including garage doors.
  • Store valuables safely in a locked safe or lockbox.
  • Use security technology like doorbell and exterior cameras to deter crime and provide evidence if needed.
  • Stay alert and communicate with trusted neighbors, especially when away from home. Avoid sharing vacation plans publicly until you return.
