Man, 79, killed in hit-and-run while raking leaves
PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, MI – A 79-year-old man was raking leaves over the weekend when he was fatally struck by a vehicle that kept going after the crash, police said. Warren Flagg was hit around 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30, outside his home on Beck Road between Powell and North Territorial in Plymouth Township, FOX 2 Detroit reports. Police are looking for the hit-and-run suspect who they believe was driving a 2007-2010 Pontiac Solstice. The vehicle will now have damage to the front passenger side, including the headlamp and fog light, police said. Flagg was a grandfather of four and great-grandfather of 10, the report said.

On Monday, officials in Plymouth Township (Wayne County) reminded residents that the Michigan Department of Transportation will close northbound I-275 from the evening of Friday, April 22 until 5 a.m. on Monday, April 25. The well-traveled highway serves as a western bypass to downtown Detroit and takes many people to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. All entrance ramps to northbound I-275, from I-94 including Ecorse Road, US-12, M-153, Ann Arbor Road, and eastbound M-14 will be closed. “The pavement on northbound I-275 is deteriorating quicker than anticipated and repairs must be done,” township officials wrote.

The Plymouth Township Police Department is searching for the driver of a Ford Bronco who sideswiped a police cruiser on I-275 on Feb. 19. Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the Ford Bronco and its driver. Police said the Ford Bronco, which was described as “newer” looking, should have damage along the driver’s side as a result of the crash.

News reports of this led to an investigation by the Michigan Department of Attorney General. The alleged price gouging came amid national fears about high gas prices related to the recent hack of the Colonial Pipeline, which did not directly impact Michigan gasoline supply. The gas station has 10 days to respond to the notice.

Plymouth-Canton schools approve new transgender policy
There were comments coming from both sides of the issue, but the overwhelming majority did support the transgender policy change in the district. “We passed this policy to provide a more safe, welcoming environment for all of our students,” said Patti McCoin, Plymouth-Canton School Board president. McCoin was playing a bit of defense Tuesday night during a virtual meeting as she explained the new transgender policy had been under consideration for quite some time. What the change meansThe change allows transgender students to use the bathrooms and locker rooms that they identify with. The board president also pointed to communities such as Ann Arbor where they have a similar transgender policy and have not had any issues.
MSP trooper, Good Samaritans pull father, son from fiery crash on Ann Arbor Road
Good Samaritans pulled a man and child from the SUV before it became engulfed in flames Tuesday. Michigan State Police trooper Dan Drewyor was on his way to the MSP Brighton Post Tuesday morning when he saw the jack-knifed semi on Ann Arbor Road. “It was very fortunate things happened the way they did with an as good of an outcome. Thanks to multiple good Samaritans who stepped up to help with the rescue, the trooper and along with several bystanders were able to get everyone out the burning vehicle. “A lot of thanks need to go out to the gentleman that helped me,” Drewyor said.

The victims, a father and son, were transported to an area hospital. The father and son were rescued by a Michigan State Police trooper and a man who was passing by.

Plymouth Township woman charged with election law forgery
PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. A Plymouth Township woman is facing a felony charge after the township clerk, who was reviewing applications for absentee voter ballots, discovered the womans alleged attempt to obtain a ballot in the name of another person. Rotondo allegedly forged her daughters signature on an application for an absent voter application and mailed the application to the Plymouth Township clerk. Michiganders should know that absentee ballot applications, which is the subject of this fraud investigation, are not just rubber-stamped and processed robotically. The law allows votes to be cast by absentee ballot and provide procedures to combat fraud in the use of this method of voting. A person who forges a signature on an absent voter ballot application is guilty of a felony.
Family remembers mother of 3 killed in Plymouth Township murder-suicide
PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Three children are left without their mother after police say her ex-husband killed her and himself Tuesday in Plymouth Township. Family members said she was killed early Tuesday when she briefly stopped by her ex-husband’s home in the 14000 block of C Drive. Her family said there were deep-rooted problems between the two, but they never thought it would lead to death. “He took a great woman out of this world,” said Ava Sills, Salamay’s daughter. It was always her kids, then it was her friends and family, and then it was herself,” Ava Sills said.
Divorced couple found dead in suspected murder-suicide in Plymouth Township
PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Plymouth Township police believe a man killed his ex-wife before killing himself Tuesday morning. The woman was found dead in the driver’s seat of a parked and running minivan in front of the home, police said. The man and woman both had gunshot wounds, police said. Authorities believe the shooting may have been over a custody battle. A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for a funeral and three children who were left behind.

Officers responded to the home on the report of shots fired about 6:45 a.m.. The woman was found dead from a bullet wound to her head. Officers found the 46-year-old man dead inside the home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
Police dig up bodies at Plymouth cemetery in attempt to identify Detroit homicide victims
PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Police exhumed bodies from a Plymouth Township cemetery Wednesday in an attempt to identify homicide victims in cases dating back to 1959. Authorities are trying to identify 13 bodies at United Memorial Gardens in connection with Detroit murder cases. The bodies were never claimed from the morgue. The Detroit Police Department, Michigan State Police, the FBI and other agencies are working to get DNA samples from the bodies. Wednesday's dig is an extension of the Operation UNITED program that started in May at the Knollwood Cemetery in Canton Township.
Northville 911 lines restored after Sunday outage
NORTHVILLE, Mich. - City officials announced Sunday night Northville's 911 and nonemergency lines have been restored. The weekend's intense weather caused service outages. Until about 7 p.m., calls to 911 were redirected to the Livonia and Plymouth communication centers.
