AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – A man who had a lifelong dream of becoming an Auburn Hills City Council member got elected this week, but tragically, he died just after the polls closed.

City officials announced Greg Ouellette, a man who has served the community for nearly 30 years, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, shortly after the polls closed.

Ouelette was one of four people elected to the City Council. His wife said it was a lifelong dream of his to be a City Council member.

“I believe that somehow Greg was able to know that he won that election on Tuesday,” she said.

The new City Council will be sworn in on Nov. 17, following a tribute to Ouelette and his years of work in the community.

Ouellette served nearly 28 years on Auburn Hills’ Planning Commission, including about 17 years as its chairman.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ouellette family,” said Mayor Brian Marzolf. “We have no doubt how proud they must be that Greg achieved his dream of being elected to City Council.”

Plans on how the Auburn Hills City Council will move forward with the selection of a new member will be announced shortly.
