Assistant principal allegedly assaulted 14-year-old student at his home

MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – A Detroit school assistant principal accused of sexually assaulting a teen has been bound over to a higher court and could face trial, officials said.

Jerome Younger, 54, of Roseville, was bound over to Macomb County Circuit Court on Friday, Nov. 14, on the charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct (life felony) and second-degree criminal sexual conduct (15-year felony), according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.

Younger served as the assistant principal at Edward “Duke” Ellington Conservatory of Music and Art at Beckham Academy in Detroit.

He is accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old student at his home on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2025.

Younger is scheduled to be arraigned in circuit court on Monday, Nov. 24, 2025. He was released after posting his $250,000 cash/surety, 10% bond, according to the prosecutor’s office.

He must wear a GPS tether, and he cannot have any contact with the victim.

“The allegations in this case are very serious, and we thank the court for binding the defendant over for trial on these charges,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido. “Our focus remains on seeking justice and supporting the victim as the case proceeds.”

Here’s the statement Detroit Public Schools released after he was charged:

“The District was recently informed that a Duke Ellington administrator was arrested for sexual assault on a minor.

The administrator has been placed on leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation and any criminal proceedings and is not permitted to be on DPSCD property.

It is our understanding that the minor is a current DSPCD student and the alleged assault occurred off of school grounds at the employee’s home.

We are unaware of any other alleged wrongdoing associated with this administrator but will ensure an investigation to ensure that this is the case."

The Detroit Police Department also previously provided the following statement to Local 4:

“The Department can confirm that Mr. Younger served as a counselor within the Junior Police Cadet program by way of the Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation. Mr. Younger’s alleged involvement in these heinous crimes stands contrary to every value of this Department and the very mission of the junior police cadet program, which is to promote and educate our youth so that they may serve as the leaders for tomorrow.

The Department has extinguished all connections with Mr. Younger, and he will have no further involvement in any of the Department’s programs.”
