HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. – Highland Park and Michigan State Police are trying to figure out exactly what led up to this violent incident that saw a 13-year-old boy shot dead in a parking lot on Tuesday afternoon.
“It was just a chaotic scene, just trying to determine who was involved and who wasn’t involved and what was seen,” Highland Park police Investigator Everett Monroe II said.
The shooting happened around 3:45 p.m. near a Dollar General store along Woodward Avenue.
Highland Park police found the unidentified teen lying shot in the parking lot.
The boy was later taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Details were limited to what happened, but multiple witnesses told Local 4 the bullets flew all over the place.
One of them hit a window at the CSL Plasma across the street.
Monroe said the crime scene covers a large area, including neighboring apartment buildings and businesses across the street along Woodward.
“We don’t have a lot of information to give so that we won’t impede the process in the investigation case,” Monroe II said.
The Michigan State Police are handling the investigation of this shooting. Both agencies are searching for suspects, but they do say that the public is safe for now.
