Morning 4 is a quick roundup of stories we think you should know about to start your day. So, let’s get to the news.
Black Friday shopping expected to shatter records
This year’s Black Friday shopping season is shaping up to shatter records, with nearly 187 million Americans expected to shop between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday.
Retail consultant Cindy Ciura said sales could reach an unprecedented trillion dollars during this period.
“Compared to the last several years, this year is supposed to be just a blockbuster,” Ciura said. “We may reach a $1 trillion in Black Friday sales, which is from beginning on Friday up until Cyber Monday.”
Michigan-Ohio State wager
Former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel will have to wear a Michigan sweater vest if the Wolverines beat the Buckeyes in “The Game” on Saturday.
Michigan Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist, a University of Michigan alum, made a wager on the game Tressel, who became Ohio’s lieutenant governor earlier this year.
Tressel was the head coach of the Buckeyes for 10 years from 2001-2010, going 106-23 with a national championship and five Big Ten titles. He went 9-1 against Michigan, though the 2010 win was later vacated.
During his time as head coach, Tressel was widely known for wearing an Ohio State sweater vest on the sideline. For that reason, the theme of this year’s lieutenant governor wager is dueling sweater vests.
If Michigan wins, Tressel will have to wear the sweater vest and share it on social media. But if Ohio State wins, Gilchrist has to wear an Ohio State University sweater vest and post on social media.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer also got in on the bet. Read that story here.
