WASHTENAW COUNTY, Mich. – Former Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore was ordered to post a $25,000 bond and wear a GPS tether following charges related to an alleged home invasion.
The Washtenaw County prosecutor charged Moore with three offenses: a felony count of home invasion and misdemeanor counts of stalking and breaking and entering.
Moore is no longer in custody, according to jail officials.
The past few days have been tumultuous for the Ann Arbor community. Moore was fired and arrested after an investigation into an alleged assault and inappropriate relationship with a staff member.
The prosecuting attorney described the incident: “He barged his way into that apartment, immediately proceeded to a kitchen drawer, grabbed several butter knives and a pair of kitchen scissors. ‘I’m going to kill myself’... ‘My blood is on your hands.’”
On Friday afternoon, Moore made his first court appearance via Zoom, wearing a white jumpsuit and sitting quietly.
Both prosecution and defense presented their cases. The prosecution argued Moore is a flight risk, while the defense strongly disagreed.
Joseph A. Simon, Moore’s defense attorney, said, “My client is 39 years old with zero prior criminal history. Zero prior contact with the criminal justice system in any fashion.”
The judge set bond at $25,000 cash with strict conditions. Moore must wear a GPS tether, cannot leave the state without court permission, and is prohibited from contacting the victim.
When asked about the allegations, Moore’s attorney declined to comment, stating, “I said in court I have not seen the police report. I have not seen any other discovery. It would be irresponsible to comment.”
Moore’s next court hearing is scheduled for Jan. 22 at 9 a.m. and will be held in person.
