Shooting on I-96 near Southfield Freeway leaves 1 injured, investigation ongoing

DETROIT – A driver has been hospitalized following a shooting on I-96 near the Southfield Freeway.

At about 1:15 a.m. on Dec. 13, Michigan State Police were alerted to a rollover crash and reports of gunfire on westbound I-96 near the Southfield Freeway.

When officers arrived, they initially found no crash or clear evidence of a shooting.

Shortly after, Dearborn Police informed MSP that a 22-year-old Detroit man reported being shot on the freeway.

MSP learned that three people were in a car when an unknown SUV pulled alongside and fired multiple shots at their vehicle.

The SUV then continued westbound on I-96.

One passenger in the car suffered multiple gunshot wounds and drove himself to the hospital, where he is receiving treatment.

An initial sweep of the freeway recovered several shell casings and an investigation is ongoing.
