3 killed, 2 hurt in house fire on Detroit’s west side -- What we know

Fire happened near 7 Mile and Woodward

DETROIT – Three people were killed, and two others were hurt in a house fire on Detroit’s west side Monday morning.

The fire happened at a home on Wildemere near 7 Mile Road and Woodward at around 6 a.m. on Dec. 15.

3 dead, 2 injured

When crews arrived at the scene, they found a person standing outside the home.

Firefighters learned there was a total of five people living in the home, with two people trapped inside. Crews were not able to rescue the two people trapped due to the obstacles firefighters faced in the home, and the two died from their injuries.

Three other people living in the home were able to get out and were taken to a local hospital for their injuries. While en route to the hospital, Detroit Fire Deputy Chief Lorenzo Roberston said a third person died from their injuries.

One person, an elderly woman, is in critical condition, and the other person, an adult man, is expected to be okay.

There were also two animals in the home at the time of the fire, and they are okay.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
