Detroit police release video of Midtown shooting after high-speed chase ends in crash

Man connected to a dozen shootings across the city

DETROIT – The Detroit Police Department has released audio and video recordings of a police shooting that occurred in Midtown last month, complying with a city ordinance requiring disclosure in cases where officers seriously injure a citizen.

The Nov. 14 crash on Cass Avenue near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard ended a day-long pursuit of a man wanted for a string of shootings across the city.

The suspect, 33-year-old Terrance Davis, was being sought for 12 shootings that occurred across Detroit last month. Police say he shot into homes and cars during the spree, seriously injuring one person.

Newly released video footage shows the sequence of events that unfolded that day:

Police initially attempted to take Davis into custody at a home, but he escaped. Video captures Davis striking a house as he fled the scene.

Later that day, Davis attempted a carjacking at a gas station before successfully stealing another vehicle. During this incident, he allegedly exchanged gunfire with ATF agents.

The pursuit culminated when a Michigan State Police trooper executed a PIT maneuver to stop Davis, who was driving a stolen SUV on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Video shows Davis exiting the vehicle armed with a gun and running from officers. Police surrounded him on Cass Avenue, where officers ordered him to drop his weapon before opening fire, according to DPD.

Police recovered a weapon at the scene.

An investigation into whether the officers’ actions were justified remains ongoing.

Davis survived the shooting and faces multiple charges, including carjacking, assault, and attempted murder of ATF agents. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
