DETROIT – A teen and a man were charged in connection with a shooting that killed one person and injured another on Detroit’s west side on Wednesday.
The shooting happened just before 3 p.m. on Dec. 10 in the 15500 block of Sussex. When officers responded to the scene, they found Cherish Hinson, 18, and a 22-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Hinson and the man were taken to a local hospital, where the 18-year-old died from her injuries.
According to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, the shooting stemmed from an argument between Lorenza Bernard Lancaster, 17, Kavonta Maurice Plummer, 20, and the 22-year-old man. Lancaster allegedly fired a gun, striking Hinson and the 22-year-old.
Hinson was not involved in the altercation, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Police said Lancaster and Plummer then ran away from the scene, but were arrested a short time later.
Lancaster was charged with first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder and two counts of felony firearm. Plummer was charged with accessory after the fact, resisting and obstructing a police officer and carrying a concealed weapon.
The prosecutor’s office said Lancaster will be tried as an adult.
Plummer was arraigned on Dec. 14 and was given a $100,000 personal bond with a GPS tether. He is scheduled to return to court on Dec. 23. Lancaster is scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 16.
