COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 51-year-old man from Sterling Heights has been charged with a felony for driving under the influence and causing a deadly crash on Sept. 5, police said.

Kevin Koldys was driving his 2021 Lexus on Pontiac Trail near Martin Parkway in Commerce Township when he lost control, went off the road, and jumped a curb in a roundabout.

His car hit a 2017 Chevrolet Trax, pushing it into another car driven by a 64-year-old woman from Wixom, leaving her with minor injuries.

The 30-year-old driver of the Trax, who was wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.

Police say excessive speed and alcohol use by Koldys, who was seriously hurt, played a role in the crash.

Koldys is being held in jail on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at the 52-1 District Court in Novi on Dec. 30 for a probable cause conference.
