WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – A call about a man threatening to hurt himself ended with a shooting by police on Sunday in Allen Park.
The shooting happened just before 6 p.m. on Jan. 4 on Southfield Road near Dix Highway.
According to authorities, officers responded to a report of a suicidal person and spoke with the man armed with a knife at a coffee shop. Police said he refused to put down the knife and became aggressive.
When the man started walking toward the entrance of a nearby fast-food restaurant, Allen Park police deployed a taser, but there was no effect. The man was then eventually shot in the arm by police.
The man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Michigan State Police is investigating the shooting.
