18-year-old man arrested following 110 MPH police chase in Monroe County

MONROE COUNTY, Mich. – An 18-year-old man was arrested following a 110 MPH police chase in Monroe County.

The incident occurred on Monday (Jan. 5) around 8:30 p.m. in Frenchtown Township.

Monroe County Deputy Tanner Goss said he was patrolling near War Road by Frenchtown Villa when he spotted a gray Ford Mustang driving carelessly without a license plate.

Goss said he attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled, accelerating southbound on War Road.

Police said the pursuit continued through multiple roads, including N Stony Creek Road, Telegraph, S Stony Creek Road, Exeter Road, W Labo Road, and Maxwell Road.

Officials said speeds during the chase ranged from 30 to 110 mph.

Police said the vehicle eventually slowed down on Maxwell Road and continued at 30 to 40 mph through Newport and N Telegraph Road before entering Frenchtown Villa.

Officials said the fleeing car pulled into a driveway in the 8500 block of Andre Street, where the 18-year-old man driver and female passenger were taken into custody without incident.

The 18-year-old driver from Newport was lodged in the Monroe County Jail on charges of fleeing and eluding.

His 19-year-old woman passenger, also from Newport, was released at the scene.

Police said the suspect’s name is being withheld pending formal arraignment in the 1st District Court in Monroe.

Goss continues to investigate the case.
