19-year-old Warren man found dead with gunshot wound in Pontiac field

Reward offered for tips leading to an arrest

PONTIAC, Mich. – Detectives with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a murder after a 19-year-old Warren man was found dead in a field in Pontiac.

On Wednesday, Jan. 7, police responded at 8:16 a.m. to the 100 block of N. Jessie following a report of a man lying in a field near a residence who was not breathing.

Cornelius Traves Murphy Jr., 19, was found with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Police believe the shooting occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 6.

The investigation is ongoing.

Officials are asking anyone with information about the shooting or who may have witnessed anything to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.

A reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.

Tipsters can remain anonymous.
