Shawntez Marshaun Gregory, 44, facing charges

ROMULUS, Mich. – The man accused of firing a gun outside of Romulus Middle School appeared in court Thursday afternoon and immediately began cussing out the judge.

Shawntez Marshaun Gregory, 44, of Romulus, has been charged with false report or threat of terrorism, schools - intentional threat to commit act of violence against school, school employees or students with specific intent to carry out or overt act, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon in a weapons free school zone, reckless use of a firearm and two counts of felony firearm, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.

At about 9:50 a.m. on Jan. 6, Gregory allegedly fired a gun several times while he was about a foot away from Romulus Middle School in the 37000 block of Wick Road. His son was attending the school at the time. No one was injured.

Gregory appeared in court virtually on Thursday, Jan. 8, and immediately went on a profanity-laced rant. You can watch the hearing in the video at the top of this article.

The judge asked him to state his name for the record, and Gregory said, “Nope, good f—g bye. Don’t need to talk to me, quit f—g playing with me.”

He was then asked to state his name again.

“Did you hear that?” Gregory said. “I said good f—g bye. I don’t need to talk to you. Goodbye. Don’t play with me. Don’t play on my son, either. Goodbye. You can open that door. I’m ready.”

The judge then reiterated that she needs him to state his name so she can get him arraigned on the matter.

“I don’t want to see no f—g judge Martin, goodbye. If you want to talk to them, let them see me right now,” Gregory said.

“Sir, I need you to state your name for the record, please,” the judge said.

“Nope,” Gregory said.

The judge asked Gregory why he was refusing to identify himself, and he responded, “I said don’t f—g play with me. Get this over with right now. I’m done talking to you, I ain’t saying s—t else.”

After getting no response, the court concluded that he was Gregory. As the judge read the allegations against him, Gregory put his fingers in his ears, signifying that he wasn’t listening to the judge, and kept his arms crossed throughout the hearing.

When the judge asked him for his response to the allegations, he remained silent, standing mute to the charges.

“This is the fakest s—t I’ve seen in my life," Gregory said as bond was being discussed. “This is the fakest s—t I’ve seen in my life. You’re going to actually act like this, huh? That s—t is fake. Sorriest s—t and racist in my life. Bunch of racists doing stuff. So I’m done. I’m done talking. We can go and I can go back and get ready to go back home now. I’m done playing around.”

According to the judge, Gregory has multiple trespass complaints, and he has kidnapped his own son from school, which violated court orders.

Gregory allegedly received a trespass letter from the school, and police requested no bond and that he have no contact with the school, students, school officials, his child or his ex-wife.

At this point, Gregory began cussing out the judge again.

“You are one of the dumbest Black person I’ve seen in my life, about the dumbest (expletive) I’ve seen in my life. I hate to say that because it’s some racist right here. I hate to say that though, but don’t waste my time. There’s a racist right here, so don’t waste my time, no more. Tired of f—king with all of y’all. So don’t waste my time.”

The judge adopted the police department’s recommendation and remanded Gregory without bond.

“Why don’t you get a real job? Go get a real job,” Gregory said to the judge.

Gregory was also arraigned on a second matter, for failing to appear in court and there was a warrant against him. His bond was reset to $10,000, 10% in that case.

He is scheduled to appear in court again on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
