DETROIT – The Wayne County Airport Authority has completed construction of a new $63 million taxiway at Willow Run Airport, marking a major upgrade to the airport’s infrastructure.

The newly built taxiway stretches more than 7,500 feet and runs parallel to Willow Run’s main runway.

Construction began in spring 2023 and finished in October 2025 -- completed in three phases.

This taxiway is part of a larger effort to improve the airport’s design and operational efficiency.

“With this work complete, Willow Run is even better positioned to support our cargo partners and future development,” Airport Director Michael Fawaz said. “We thank our state and federal officials for their ongoing commitment to improving Willow Run.”

Willow Run Airport handles over 200 million pounds of cargo annually, ranking it among the nation’s top airports dedicated to air freight.
